A gorgeous morning for racing. Huge thanks to Pirate, Tracey, Dave and others handling the tough job of officiating with aplomb! Also to Felto and Dobeli who handled the time trial on Sunday, it couldn’t have gone more smoothly.

Triple Crown Event Information

The Triple Crown is made up of three individual races: Points race, elimination and time trial. It will be raced over A, B, C and women’s grades. As usual at Nundah women will race with B grade in the points and elimination races.

Each event will award points from 1st to 5th in each grade (1st: 5 points, 2nd: 4 points, 3rd: 3 points, 2nd: 2 points, 5th: 1 point). Points will be accumulated from each event and the rider with the most points at the end of the three events will be awarded the overall win.

Points Race – Nundah, Saturday 12th of May

21 laps with a sprint every 3 laps (total of 7 sprints including the final sprint). Points will be awarded —1st: 3 points, 2nd: 2 points, 3rd: 1 point — for each sprint. Points will be worth double in the final sprint. C grade will race 15 laps with 5 sprints including the last.

Elimination – Nundah, Saturday 12th of May

One neutral lap followed by the last rider across the line each lap getting eliminated until only one rider remains. Depending on numbers two riders each lap may be eliminated for the first few laps.

Time Trial – Brookfield, Sunday 13th of May

A 12km out and back time trial on this course.

We’ll need volunteers to help out on both mornings. Especially on the Saturday morning where it can be difficult to pick the top 3 riders in the sprints as well as the last riders getting eliminated.

Roll out on both days will be 6:15 from the Regatta as usual. C grade will be leaving the Regatta at 5:20 for a 6:00 start at Nundah.

Mt Cotton Kermesse

After last year’s wet track everyone was looking to the skies hoping it held off today. It did and it made for a great day’s racing with Uni represented across all grades and a bunch of podiums.

Mt Cotton Kermesse Masters A Podium

Masters A saw Michael Davis attacking from lap one and despite a rotating cast of breakaway helpers was not once seen back in the bunch. He took both primes. The skinsuit, 808s and shoe covers should have advertised his plan but it didn’t matter, an amazing performance. Ross West took the sprint win with Mark Watts and Anthony Collins finishing in the top 6.

Steve Hammer took fourth place in a huge 90+ rider field in Masters B.

After controlling much of the race Marc Bryant set up the sprint beautifully for Martin Millard who was pipped at the line and took second place in Masters C.

In the Women’s B, C and D combined race Anne O’Shea and Dom Schuh attacked the bunch multiple times before a break stuck containing them both and two other riders. The gap quickly became unassailable for the peloton with Dom sprinting to the win in B grade and Anne taking second in C grade.

Maintaining his form from the Summer series Andrew Stefan grabbed third in Elite C with help from Dave Anderson and Simon Maurice.

Peter Herzig and Kristian Juel were highly visible in Elite A as usual with Kristian getting away from the bunch to nab the second prime. 2010 winner Mark Frendo came in sixth.

Another great and successful day for Uni at the races. There’s a few more pics from the day at our Flickr page which will be updated as more pics roll in.

The Arses: HPRW and UQCC Head to Head

Last year we held the inaugural head to head with HPRW: The Arses. We got our butts thoroughly handed to us across all but one grade so this year it’s time for some retribution. The race is on next Saturday the 10th of March at Nundah.

Start times:

  • A grade 6.45am (60 mins + 2 laps)
  • C grade 6.50am (40 mins + 2 laps)
  • Women’s 7.35am (30 mins + 2 laps)
  • D grade 7.50am (30 mins + 2 laps)
  • B grade 8.10am (50 mins + 2 laps)

There’s points to 4th place in each grade and the women’s race is a handicap. The club with the most accumulated points across grades will take home the Arses trophy for 2012.

Fields are limited to 30 riders per club for a total of 60 and race entry is $10. Please wear club kit (any version that is clearly UQCC) so everyone knows who you are.

While HPRW is doing the lion’s share of the organisation, it’s important that we contribute. So, on the day we’ll need to offer commissaire, desk/sign-in help, and course marshalls. So please be ready to volunteer if needs be – if we have plenty of volunteers you can race and help out. At least two volunteers would be appreciated from 6.15am.

We’ll be doing some post race mingling with our HPRW friends/rivals at Idea Caffe, not far from Nundah.

New Website!

Welcome to our new website! It’s been completely overhauled. Outside of the updated design the biggest thing you’ll notice is the forum now limited only to our members. Feel free to post away knowing that your messages are for UQCC member eyes only.

Another great new update is the mobile optimisation. Simply visit the site on your mobile device to automatically get an optimised version of the site including the forum. The plan this year is to also make a lot more official updates via the news section of the new website to better keep those club members not on the forum in the loop.

Please send any bugs or ideas for improvements to email hidden; JavaScript is required.

Update: It seems CQ have messed up DOB information in a lot of members’ records during their recent system transfer. Apparently the month and day values have been switched. This will cause a problem when you first try to login to the new forum with the password being your DOB imported from CQ.

On your first login you can either try your DOB as the password with the month and day switched or you can use the forgotten password form.
